What the assistant reads
Which product details reach the answer, and which never do.
A connected store is read at answer time. When a customer asks about a product, Pommy queries your store right then — so the price the customer hears is the price on your store at that second, not a copy taken last week. Nothing about your catalog is mirrored or stored on our side.
What it reads#
| Field | Used for |
|---|---|
| Name and description | Finding the right product from what the customer asked. |
| Price | Answering "how much is it?" with a real number. |
| Stock | Answering "is it available?" honestly. |
| Image and product link | The card shown in the conversation, and the button that opens the product page. |
What it never reads#
- Orders — the assistant cannot look up an order or its status through the store connection.
- Customers — no customer list, no addresses, no purchase history.
- Anything writable — it cannot change a price, edit stock or place an order.
Tip: Want the assistant to answer order questions? That needs a different route — your own API exposed as a tool. See Data Actions.
Getting good answers out of it#
- Product names carry the search — the assistant matches what the customer typed against the name first. A product called "Model X-2" is hard to find; "Basic Cap" is easy.
- Write real descriptions — colour, size, material. "Is there a blue one?" can only be answered from text that says blue.
- Keep the catalog tidy — drafts and duplicates confuse matching the same way they confuse a customer.
Warning: If your store cannot be reached for a moment, the assistant says it cannot check right now — it does not say "we don't have that". A missing answer is honest; a wrong one costs you a sale.
Checking it works#
Open your storefront and ask the bubble three things: a product by name, its price, and whether it is in stock. The name should bring a card with an image and a working button, the price should match your store exactly, and the stock answer should match too. The Integrations page also shows how many products it can currently see.
